Jordi Pujol

Jordi Pujol i Soley studied Medicine, and from the age of sixteen participated in the resistance against the dictatorship of General Franco. In 1980 he stood for election to the Catalan parliament for Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya and was elected president of the Generalitat de Catalunya 1980-2003. Under his government Catalonia has undergone a process of national, cultural, social and economic reconstruction, and his government has also made a positive contribution to the stability of government in Spain.
