Bruno van Pottelsberghe

Bruno van Pottelsberghe is Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM) and Senior Fellow at Bruegel, a Brussels-based Think-Tank. As holder of the Solvay S.A. Chair of Innovation he teaches courses on the economics and management of innovation and intellectual property. For his research activities, he is also affiliated to ECARES (ULB) and CEPR London. His research interests focus on S&T policies, patent policies, regulations and innovation.
His recent book, a Bruegel Blueprint, was published in June 2009: "Lost property: the European patent system and why it doesn’t work". He was Chief Economist of the European Patent Office (EPO) from November 2005 to the end of 2007 and is now Advisor to the President and Rector of the ULB for technology transfer issues. He wrote several research papers on the effectiveness of patent systems.
