José Montilla i Aguilera

President of Catalonia, Spain

José Montilla is President of the Government of Catalonia, a position he has held since November 2006 after heading the candidature of the Catalan Socialist Party-Citizens for Change.

His career has been principally in Public Administration, holding various political posts. Among others, he was Mayor of Cornellà from 1987 to 2003, Minister of Industry, Tourism & Trade in 2004, also he has been Provincial Deputy in the Regional Government of Barcelona since 1983.

He has been closely involved with the Catalan Socialist Party (PSC-PSOE) since 1978, with various executives and representative responsibilities. He studied economy and law at Barcelona University and is a Public Authority official.
