Dr. Ian Cloete

Dr. Ian Cloete

President, International University, Germany

Ian Cloete is the president of the International University in Germany (IUG) and Professor of Computational Intelligence in the School of Information Technology. He is a well known scientist in the areas of machine learning, data mining, neural networks and computational intelligence.

Formerly at IUG, he was Vice President (Research) from July 2005 to April 2006, and Dean of the School of IT from 2001 to 2003. He received an M.Sc.(Engineering) degree from Natal University, Durban, and a Ph.D.(Engineering) degree from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Before joining the International University, he was with the Department of Computer Science, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, and worked at the National Accelerator Centre, where he was responsible for software development of the computer control system of a 200MeV separated-sector cyclotron facility.

His current research interests include machine learning and data mining, knowledge-based neurocomputing, computational intelligence, algorithm implementations and (industrial) applications of this technology. His research group is a member of KDNet, the Knowledge Discovery Network of Excellence.
